Celebrities have an incredible amount of influence on society. We see them as role models, which is why we do as they do. Given their tremendous influence, it’s so important for vegan celebrities to advocate for the environment, individual’s health, and the ethical treatment of animals. 

Below, we will present 10 famous celebs who are vegan, and let the world know it.

Ellen DeGeneres & Portia De Rossi

In 2008, Ellen DeGeneres and her wife, Portia De Rossi, made the decision to go vegan. They made the call because they both love animals, and wanted to lower their carbon footprint. 

Portia said that they became vegan when they just started dating. “She was giving me a hard time about wearing fur and I said ‘Why is a fox any more important than a cow?’ So we just kind of took that idea and went all the way with it.”, said Portia. 

Ellen expressed that her views on eating meat changed the minute she decided to educate herself on animal cruelty and factory farming. It gave her a new perspective. She wrote; “I suddenly realized that what was on my plate were living things, with feelings. And I just couldn’t disconnect myself from it any longer…” 

Miley Cyrus & Liam Hemsworth

Miley Cyrus has been a vegan for a few years now, as well as her partner Liam Hemsworth. Any fan of Miley’s knows that she is big on promoting veganism through her social media accounts. 

Liam decided to started eating a plant-based diet for his health, and because, after a bit of research, he could no longer continue ignoring the mistreatment of animals. “The more I was aware, the harder and harder it was to do.” expressed the star. 

Jenna Dewan

Dancer and actress, Jenna Dewan, has been vegan since she was ten years old! After watching footage of a slaughterhouse, she decided she did not want to eat meat “ever again”. “I just remember being blown away, utterly traumatized. And I declared the next day that I was never eating meat again. And I didn’t — it started then.” stated Jenna. 

Jenna also expressed that her daughter, Everly, is a very proud vegetarian. She has said that her daughter is very vocal about not eating meat. She wears it like a “badge”. 

Joaquin Phoenix

Joaquin Phoenix went vegan before most people even knew what it meant to eat a plant-based diet. He has been vegan for 40 years now, and has been an advocate for animal rights for years now. 

Joaquin made the decision to go vegan when he was just a child. He recounted the story to Mercy for Animals saying that: 

“Really it was seeing these fish being killed when I was on a boat as a kid. I guess to stun them they were throwing them against the side of the boat. I just had a profound strong reaction. It felt like a real injustice…We said to our parents, “Why didn’t you tell us?” It’s amazing. I remember my mom’s face, I remember her crying. She didn’t know how to answer. It became very obvious we weren’t going to eat meat anymore.”

Mike Tyson

The former Heavyweight Boxing Champion is surprisingly a vegan. Mike Tyson has been following a plant-based diet for a little over 8 years now. 

Tyson started eating a vegan diet because his wife was experimenting with it for a few weeks. She enjoyed trying different diets out, and one day she decided to try out a plant-based diet. Tyson decided he would join his wife in trying out a vegan diet. He has been eating a plant-based diet ever since. 

At one point in his life, Mike Tyson was obese, had joint pain, and arthritis. He credits his vegan diet for helping him lose 140 pounds and getting healthy. 

Ariana Grande

It’s refreshing to see a big celeb like Ariana Grande use their fame to bring awareness to important causes. Ariana is very outspoken regarding the ethical treatment of Animals. She has been a vegan for several years now, and has continuously offered her support to animal rights.


She is a firm believer in eating a healthy and balanced diet consisting of fruits, veggies, and legumes. One of the most important aspects of veganism for Ariana is the health benefits. She likes to follow a whole foods diet because she thinks it “can expand your life length and make you an all-around happier person.” Ariana is a true activist, and we’re here for it!

Pamela Anderson

Pamela Anderson is somewhat of a vegan hero. She as been an activist for PETA for over 20 years now, and has devoted much of her free time to protesting and hosting events to educate people about animal cruelty and the meat industry. 

In 1999, She was awarded the first ever Linda McCartney Memorial award, which was presented to her by the legendary Paul McCartney, for her activism. On several occasions, she has brought vegan food to homeless shelters and jails. Pamela has also turned down several modeling jobs from companies that still perform testing on animals.

Al Gore

Al Gore is a famous environmentalist. For years now, he has been educating the world about the environment and how destructive human beings are to our planet through speeches and documentaries, including ‘An Inconvenient Truth’. 

Given how vocal he is about climate change, t’s not surprising that Al Gore has adopted a totally vegan diet in 2013. He stated: 
“Over a year ago I changed my diet to a vegan diet, really just to experiment to see what it was like. … Now, for many people, that choice is connected to environmental ethics and health issues and all that stuff. … In a visceral way, I felt better, so I’ve continued with it and I’m likely to continue it for the rest of my life.”

Carrie Underwood

Despite growing up on a cattle farm in Oklahoma, Carrie Underwood has been vegan for a long time now. When young Carrie finally asked her parents what happened to the cows on their farm, she was freaked out and stopped eating beef. 

Although she never ate a lot of meat after that, she found it difficult to be vegetarian or vegan in a small remote town. Meat substitutes were tough to come by, according to Carrie. However, when she went to California while appearing on American Idol, she saw how many vegan restaurants there were and realized how easy it was to eat a plant-based diet there! 

Since then, she has been living an almost entirely vegan lifestyle. Carrie Underwood now calls Nashville her home, and says there are plenty of yummy vegan options for her there.

Stevie Wonder

Everyone’s favourite soul singer, Stevie Wonder, is vegan! Who would’ve known. He has been vegan for roughly 4 years now. He has said that being vegan is important to him because he cares about his health, and the environment. He stated that veganism was an important step for him to take in order to do his part for the planet: “We have to be about making our planet more greener, the urban areas more sustainable for the children…”
